Welcome to my blog! Here you can find some information about my topic that I have studied in this term at the ESL Academy. My topic is about how to improve productivity in construction fields. Here you can find my video that has some initial ideas. However, I have also joined a list of essential vocabulary for this topic, and I have posted a short annotated bibliography to help your in your research. For your better understanding, I also wrote an in-depth research article that explains my ideas in more detail.
This issue is important because civil engineering is an old field that have to innovate. In three years studying civil engineering in my university in Brazil, I have learned from my professors that this field should change somethings such as classes, research, courses, etc. All those changes try to improve productivity or efficiency in construction fields. Improving productivity in construction fields will result in great consequences. People will live in better and safe places, government will spend less money with reforms and infrastructure because constructions would have more quality and durability. Construction companies will increase their profits, and this would improve the economy in the world because more people will be contracted for those companies.
Hey Ricardo-- Why do you think civil engineers don't like to innovate? Are they different from other types of engineers? I thought all engineers liked to use the most efficient solutions for their projects, which often requires innovation.
ReplyDeleteWhen we compare civil engineering with other engineering fields, we can realize that a little bit of innovation has happened in civil engineering. Every day we see a lot of innovation in mechanical, electrical, or even hardware engineering, but in civil engineering it is different. An savvy civil engineer and professor always said in my Brazilian university that civil engineers have been using the same techniques, building materials, or concepts to build from decades ago in construction fields. We can see it in construction fields around the world. Basically, civil engineers think about cost and profits even if it means do not innovate. For example, if it is cheaper build using brick and mortar than use other kind of new material, they will keep using old materials like wood, brick and mortar, steel, etc.
